When the Downbeat Club shut down for the summer in March of 1947, Lady was temporarily unemployed. Her manager Joe Glaser thought it would be best for Lady to take the time and check herself into a clinic to break her drug habit. 

She went to a new New York Clinic and paid for a $2,000 three week cold turkey cure, where she held this “photo shoot”.

If I ever have a drug habit to break I hope I can be as classy as Billie.
